From 2018 to 2025, I conducted regular bird surveys along 20 km of Vekol Valley Road, an underbirded area of Lower and Upper Sonoran Desert habitat with spreader dike retention ponds, located in southern Maricopa County, Arizona. My team of volunteers documented 152 species, bringing the cumulative total for that area to 169 species. We also updated the breeding status of several species, including the desert subspecies of Purple Martin, Rufous-Winged and Cassin’s Sparrows, and Indigo and Varied Buntings.
