The principal bird highlight of the fall 2022 season (1 August to 30 November) was an irruption of several northern and high-elevation finch species into the lowlands. The movement of inches into Arizona was part of a North American– wide phenomenon. In addition, in the West an unusually large number of American Robins (Turdus migratorius) and Townsend's Solitaires (Myadestes townsendi) moved southward and notably to sites at lower elevations where they are less expected. This note will describe these events as well as other exceptional fall 2022 sightings.
