On 24 February 2005, the first Tufted Flycatcher was observed and documented in Arizona. Found in Mohave County, it was only the third record for the United States. Tufted Flycatchers nest near enough to Arizona to make it a not-unexpected vagrant, and its distribution in Sonora is similar to the Blue Mockingbird (another altitudinal migrant), which has been previously reported in the state.
