Breeding Status and Distribution of Lawrence's Goldfinch in Arizona

Prior to 2005, there were only six reports of Lawrence's Goldfinch nesting in Arizona. Breeding activity was not noted for this species during the Arizona Breeding Bird Atlas Project conducted primarily between 1993-2000.  After the Atlas project, evidence suggested a pair nested near Gisela in Gila County in 2003. Then, in 2005 two pairs were found nesting at Hassayampa River Preserve, Maricopa County; one pair at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Pinal County; and probable nesting of a pair at Betty's Kitchen, Yuma County.
